Wellington

Wellington, Colorado is a small town situated about 20 minutes north of Fort Collins and about as far south of the Wyoming border along I-25. It is the most northernly town on Colorado's Front Range with a population of at least 10,000. For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as Colorado's 'Northern Gateway'. It was originally founded in the mid-1800's as an agricultural and coal hub -- an identify it largely retains to this day.

Wellington has long served as a stopping off point for travelers on I-25 headed to and from Colorado and Wyoming. Wellington's downtown has a growing community of small business owners offering a small assortment of restaurants, shops and (of course) breweries. Downtown also features some notable community events and celebrations, including a farming-themed Fourth of July parade complete with a pancake breakfast and processions of John Deere tractors and classic cars.

Nearby natural attractions include Soapstone Prairie Natural Area (about 25 minutes north of town near the WY border) with plenty of hiking, biking and wildlife viewing options as well as Douglas Reservoir to the west of town for boating, fishing and relaxing by the water.

Wellington also boasts the second most affordable housing market in northern Colorado (after Greeley) with home prices that offer around a 15% discount on average compared to Fort Collins to the south. As much of Wellington's growth has come in the last 15-20 years, many homes are newer and offer a great opportunity for those who prefer a newer home but don't want to pay the premium for a new house in towns like Fort Collins or Windsor.
