Fort Collins is Colorado’s fourth-largest city and the largest city in northern Colorado. It is a college town home to Colorado State University (CSU), the state’s second-largest university by enrollment. Fort Collins sits at the base of the foothills and along the Cache La Poudre River—about an hour north of Denver on I-25. This is thanks in no small part to CSU's status as a major research institution and enduring identity as an agricultural college. Now known as the Rams, student athletes at CSU were formally called 'Aggies' (hence the large white 'A' painted in the foothills just west of town). Fort Collins also consistently appears on lists ranking it among the best places to live in the US.
