Fort Collins

Fort Collins is Colorado’s fourth-largest city and the largest city in northern Colorado. It is a college town home to Colorado State University (CSU), the state’s second-largest university by enrollment. Fort Collins sits at the base of the foothills and along the Cache La Poudre River—about an hour north of Denver on I-25. Fort Collins is known for its bicycling culture (Platinum-rated by the League of American Bicyclists) as well as an excellent craft beer scene and ranks among the top cities in the US in breweries per capita. Major craft breweries such as New Belgium Brewing and Odell Brewing are headquartered in Fort Collins.

In addition to its world-class network of bicycling and jogging trails, Fort Collins also features an amazing collection of parks and natural areas. You can hardly avoid throwing a stone anywhere in the city without hitting one. Nestled up against the foothills and Horsetooth Reservoir, the city offers abundant outdoor recreation including hiking, mountain biking, fishing and boating in these natural areas as well as the nearby Lory State Park to the west. Northwest of town, the Poudre Canyon is highly prized for its hiking, rock climbing, rafting and fly fishing.

On top of outdoor recreation, bikes and craft beer, Fort Collins has a thriving local agriculture and food scene and is a bit of a tech-hub, with major tech companies like HP, Intel, Broadcom and AMD all having offices or facilities in the city. This is thanks in no small part to CSU's status as a major research institution and enduring identity as an agricultural college. Now known as the Rams, student athletes at CSU were formally called 'Aggies' (hence the large white 'A' painted in the foothills just west of town). Fort Collins also consistently appears on lists ranking it among the best places to live in the US.
